From Zoomies to “Yes!”: Whitehorse, Gunner, and a Surprise Engagement
By your Tacoma Adventure Pet Photographer Who Believes Dogs Deserve a Front Row Seat to Life’s Biggest Moments
Some sessions start with playful zoomies and end with champagne-worthy surprises. That’s exactly what happened when I had the joy of photographing Whitehorse and Gunner—two lovable pups who thought they were just out for an adventure photoshoot with their people. What they and S didn’t expect (except J and me, who he’d brought in on the surprise) was that this session would turn into an engagement story. Yes, an engagement photoshoot with your dogs! I just LOVE love.
As a pet photographer in the Pacific Northwest, I’m used to capturing all kinds of moments: muddy paws, tail wags, slobbery kisses, and sunset portraits. But when J dropped to one knee, the whole world seemed to pause—except for Whitehorse and Gunner, who of course thought this was the perfect time to wiggle in for extra cookies. It was silly, joyful, and so perfectly real. And those are exactly the kinds of memories that mean the most.
What I love most about the honor of capturing moments like this is how naturally the dogs are included. Whitehorse and Gunner weren’t just bystanders—they were part of the family story. They’re there for the everyday walks, the couch snuggles, and the muddy hikes, so of course they should be there when life takes an exciting turn. Dogs are family, and I believe they deserve to be celebrated right alongside their humans in every milestone.
Looking back at the photos, it’s clear: the joy wasn’t just in the proposal itself but in the way the dogs leaned in, wagging like they knew something big had just happened. The laughter, the surprise, the happy chaos—it all adds up to a story that’s uniquely theirs. And that’s the beauty of documenting these moments: you never know when a session will turn into something unforgettable.
Whether it’s an engagement, an anniversary, or simply celebrating another year with your best friend, your dogs deserve to be right there in the frame. Because when you look back on your photos years from now, you’ll see not just what happened, but who you were with—and the four-legged family members who made it all better.
