Big Adventures with a Small Pup: Dexter’s Saltwater State Park Photo Session

Adventure doesn’t have to mean scaling mountains or trekking for miles—it can be as simple (and as magical) as a little dog with a big spirit exploring a sandy Pacific Northwest beach. Recently, I met Dexter, a pint-sized pup with a huge personality, for a photo session at Saltwater State Park. With a soft sand beach, plenty of driftwood to climb on beaches, and salty breezes off Puget Sound, it was the perfect backdrop for adventure pet photography near Tacoma.

Dexter may be small, but he tackled the beach with the confidence of a seasoned explorer. He trotted along the salty beach, paused to sniff every interesting log, and occasionally stopped to look back at his mom as if to say, Are you seeing this, too? His curiosity and joy turned every corner of Saltwater State Park into a stage for unforgettable moments.

We mixed in both candid and posed portraits, letting Dexter’s natural energy guide the pace. Down by the shoreline, he danced across driftwood and posed with Puget Sound stretching behind him, the sunset casting golden light over his scruffy fur.

What made the session truly special, though, was the bond between Dexter and his humans. They laughed as he pranced through the crispy cold water, crouched down to scoop him up for snuggly portraits, and enjoyed sweet time together as the sun set across the water.
