Best Pet Businesses in & Around Seattle and Tacoma
Seattle/Tacoma is a haven for pet lovers (we have more dogs than kids here, really!), offering a vibrant array of businesses dedicated to our furry, feathered, and finned friends. Whether you're a long-time resident or a newcomer to the Emerald City, you'll find an endless list of options to pamper, care for, and entertain your pets. From upscale pet boutiques and gourmet treat bakeries to top-notch veterinary clinics and scenic dog parks, Seattle has it all.
But, how do you pick the best? How do you find ones where people you know have had personal great experiences with them? I am always recommending my favorites to my pet portrait clients and thought…why not gather together recommendations from people I know and then put them all in a (non-exhaustive) list?
Without further adieu, here are some of my favorite pet businesses in and around Seattle and Western Washington, and the favorites of other pet-obsessed folks.
PS: The ones with asterisks have been used by me. It goes without saying, but I cannot guarantee your experience with any these folks will be amazing—we’re all human—as this is just a list compiled from my experiences and those of my clients. Hambos Pups* (Seattle)

Ruffwear* (Bend, OR)
Tried and true, and everyone I know LOVES them. Our dogs wear Ruffwear collars and harnesses and the quality is amazing. They’re based in Bend, Oregon but I adore them so they get a shout out.
Beloved by our local malamute rescue (WAMAL) this harness brand is available at MudBay and other pet stores but if the dog chews through the strap you can send back to them for $14-ish dollars and they’ll repair.
Best Specialty Pet Treats & Pet Shops
Seattle Barkery* (Seattle)
The Seattle Barkery is a pet-specific bakery that offers gourmet, freshly baked treats for dogs with locations in and around Seattle. We especially love their birthday cakes and the treat chute at their stores, where their staff drop cookies down a slide for pups at the check out counter. So cute!
RuffSeas Treats* (Gig Harbor)
My dogs LOVE these treats. They are locally made with clean ingredients and the owner is lovely. You can shop online, find them in local stores, and sometimes at local farmer’s markets!
Ryoken Instinct* (Seattle)
Sarah shares, “They’re AAPI and female owned! The founder left her career in biochemistry and developed the recipes for their canine energy bars and they only source their ingredients from family owned regenerative farms in WA and OR!”
Wet Noses Treats* (Monroe)
Wet Noses was founded in 1998 around a simple concept: If you wouldn’t eat it, don’t feed it to your dog. Their founder went on a mission to create the best 100% human grade pet products, and 25 years later they are still doing just that.
Mud Bay*
Mud Bay is a renowned pet store chain in Washington, specializing in natural and holistic pet foods, supplements, and supplies. Known for their knowledgeable staff and commitment to pet health, Mud Bay offers a welcoming environment for pet owners seeking quality products and expert advice.
Best Veterinary Care, Health & Other Services
Note: My personal general practice veterinarian isn’t on this public list for safety reasons, but I’m happy to share their information with clients.
Summit Veterinary Specialists* (Tacoma)
Specialty veterinary hospital with board-certified veterinary specialists in internal medicine, neurology, oncology, and more.
Acupuncture and holistic veterinary services, exclusively done through house calls. Dr. Aja is wonderful—we use her as well as a couple other people I know.
WaterDog Spa*(White Center)
Hydrotherapy in South Seattle. They have a couple different folks you can work with depending on your schedule, and a spot to give your dog a free bath after if you want.
Same-day, walk-in appointments. They are a veterinary co-op and have an amazing program where you can add a percentage of your total to your invoice, which then goes into a pot of money for folks who need extra help to cover medical costs for their pets. I am ALL about community care, and love that they do this.
Veterinary Oncology Center - Dr. Sarbu
This veterinarian has been recommended by two separate clients as the best veterinary experience they’ve ever had, which is high praise when you’re going through something as traumatic as needing oncology care for your pet.
Pet Dental Specialists (Vancouver)
Kelcy says, “Pet Dental Specialists helped seal up a tooth for Meiku. The wait time was much shorter than anywhere in Seattle and the dentist gave a lot of information and suggestions for aftercare.”
Veterinary hospice and in-home euthanasia services.
Resting Waters (West Seattle)
Seattle’s only pet-focused aquamation funeral home (like cremation, but with water). They will also aquamate strays that are found (after a hold time to see if owners can be located), free of charge.
Dr. Jen provides end-of-life veterinary care services in your home. She prioritizes the comfort and well-being of your beloved companion during their final days.
Mobile dog running on slatmills that allow your dog to run or walk at their preferred speed while keeping clean, warm, and dry. Natalie uses this service to keep her Saluki in top shape.
I met these lovely folks at a fundraising event for Seattle Humane this summer. This is one of those services you’re happy to have not used yet, but what really stood out for me is that you get to stay with your pet during their care, even if surgery is involved. They are also involved with a veterinary care non-profit to help provide care for folks who might not be able to afford it.
Animal Medical Center of Seattle (Shoreline)
I met one of their lovely veterinarians (she is a client!) and was so impressed with her knowledge and compassion. The clinic is a 24/7 emergency clinic in Shoreline, that also offers speciality care like neurology, imaging, dentistry, oncology, and more.
Furry Godmother (Pet Sitting, Training, Walking)
Kay comes highly recommended by a client who is just as protective of her pets as I am, so I know Kay has to be amazing! She offers dog walking, pet sitting, and dog training services in and around Seattle.
Balanced Paws Rehab (Edgewood)
From their website: “Veterinary Rehabilitation is not only for pets recovering from surgery or sports injuries, it also improves their quality of life.
