Fall Portraits at Rattlesnake Lake
One of my favorite spots for photoshoots with playful dogs is Rattlesnake Lake. It’s a gorgeous spot in summer to go swimming, paddling, or hiking, and is great for water dogs, but if your dog doesn’t like water and you still want gorgeous mountain views and evergreens? Yep, Rattlesnake Lake is still perfect!
When fall arrives, the water level naturally starts to go down and exposes the old growth trees that were cut down way back when there used to be a town in what is now the lake. The stumps are HUGE! They make for a gorgeous backdrop for photos, including lots of fun things to climb on and run around. The stumps stay exposed through winter and into early spring, and sometimes we’ll even get lucky and the lake will be covered in snow!
My other favorite thing about Rattlesnake Lake is just how varied the weather can be. Clear day? The sunsets tend to be glowy and gorgeous. Rainy day? We tend to get that stunning PNW fog that makes everything soft and moody. You really can’t go wrong!
Kash the Golden
I had SO much fun capturing portraits of Kash. It’s a common question if I only do end of life pet photography, but I also do tons of sessions with younger pets! I adore action photos and capturing playful pups in their element. Sweet boy Kash was such a gentleman for some posed photos with his mom on the trail along the lake because we knew the second we got near the water he was going to absolutely go HAM for the water and the mud. Sure enough, once we headed toward the lake he realized he was about to have his best day EVER.
He splashed through the lake, rolled in the mud, chased his favorite toy, shook the mud all over his mom while she laughed, and generally got to be himself.
This is my favorite thing about pet photography, capturing you and your pet for all the big moments and the small. The silly and the serious. You’ll cuddle and play, play with their favorite toy, rub their ears tussle their fur, and I’ll be there to capture it all so you can remember it forever.
