Professional Cat Photography | Kitsap Peninsula Cat Photography
“Do you only photograph dogs? Do you work with cats?”
Listen, I love ALL animals. If you want portraits of your cat, I’m there. Your chameleon? Yes. Your favorite chicken or your backyard cow? SIGN ME UP!
I am thrilled to offer cat photography to Western Washington, including the Kitsap Peninsula, Seattle, Tacoma, and beyond. If your cat is an outdoor adventure cat and loves to explore and hike, there are no special requirements! We’ll meet at your favorite outdoor spot (or one of my secret spots!) and take gorgeous portraits of your whiskered bestie.
Have a cat that doesn’t like the outdoors? I can do that, too! There are just a few things to keep in mind…
Photographing Cats Indoors
If your cat is an indoor-only, “I like camping in that I like being on the patio with my catnip in paw” kinda cat, we can absolutely get beautiful portraits of them that you can cherish forever, with some CAT-veats (get it? LOL):
Your home must have good natural light. Think large windows, clutter-free spaces, and lots of good light coming in during the day.
Your cat has to be friendly and interested in strangers. If your cat isn’t thrilled about strangers and is going to hide and be miserable while I’m there, we won’t be able to take portraits of them. They don’t need to be my best friend, but I do need them to be curious and not run and hide!
That’s truly it! Just two EASY things. If your cat is playful, we’ll get portraits of them playing. If their idea of perfect is lounging in the sun and cuddling with you, we’ll capture those, too. With cats there isn’t really posing, just letting them be themselves and letting their personalities shine through.
Why I Love Photographing Cats
I’ll be honest. I am a HUGE dog nerd. Like, they’re my favorite animal (tied with orcas and horses), but I adore cats. If my hound wasn’t terrified of them (TRUE STORY!) we would have at least two. A lot of dog photographers won’t work with cats for the classic reasons: cats won’t pose, they don’t listen to direction, you can’t bribe them with treats, they don’t like to be outdoors…but I’m here to tell you those are some of the reasons I LOVE photographing cats.
Cat sessions can be difficult! They require a lot of patience, calmness, and letting the animal tell you what it wants and needs. My secret, I do that with dogs, too! I’m never going to force your pet to do something they don’t want to do, and that extends to dogs. Your pets comfort will always come first during our photography sessions. I love getting to know your cat, spending some time getting them used to me, and then quietly following them around your home. You might think you can’t get beautiful portraits of a sleepy cat inside, but my session with Nova will prove otherwise.
This sweet girl played a little, yes, but she mostly spent our session time in the sun, padding around the house, peeping through the front window (her favorite), and napping while her mom rubbed her head. Capturing these little moments of pure magic is my favorite part of being a pet photographer. These are the moments you’ll remember, and by hiring me to capture them, you get to sit in the beauty of those memories forever. You get to memorialize those quiet moments with your best friend, remembering their soft sighs when you scratch just the right spot, or their little chirp when the catnip banana pops up at the end of their cat tunnel. These little glimmers are what make life with your pet so wonderful, and I’m here to capture those so you can cherish them forever.
