Action Pet Photography at Rattlesnake Lake in North Bend

If your dog’s favorite speed is full send, Rattlesnake Lake might just be their dream photoshoot location. Nestled in the Snoqualmie Pass area of Washington State, Rattlesnake Lake is one of my go-to spots for action pet photography—the kind with muddy paws, flying ears, and big “I’m having the best day of my life” energy.

In the winter the water level goes way down, exposing lots of room for running along the lake and among the old growth stumps that pop up when the water goes down. The stumps also make for a really cool background!

I met Millie and her mom there for a muddy adventure day at the lake, and these portraits did not disappoint! Millie splashed through the creek, had the time of her life digging in the mud, chased a stick and proudly ran zoomies around us as I captured her joy and her mom laughed. We also took time to capture some sweet moments together—Millie snuggled up with her mom, touching noses, and enjoying the sun setting behind the mountains.

Action Pet Photography: Capturing Real Movement (Not Forced Poses)

Action pet photography is all about timing, patience, and letting dogs be dogs. Getting action portraits of your dogs is perfect for pups with tons of energy, dogs who love to run or chase toys, and dogs that love to swim! I focus on force-free pet photography, which means no commands, no pressure, and no expectations for “perfect behavior.”

Instead, we let your dog’s enthusiasm for life do the work. Love to chase the ball? Catch the frisbee? Splash through the water? Dig in the mud? We’ll capture it all! These moments create portraits of your dog that feel alive—because they are.

What to Expect During an Action Pet Photography Session

  • Plenty of breaks

  • Time for sniffing and exploring

  • Movement-based prompts instead of static poses

  • A photographer who is absolutely ready to sprint, get belly down in the mud, and dodge the splashing water

The result? Natural, joyful images that capture your dog exactly as they are right now. You’ll get to remember these moments forever, when you look up at the beautiful art work on your walls, or leaf through your custom photo album filled with your memories from your magical day in the mountains.

If your dog’s personality is more “chaos gremlin” than “polite sitter,” action pet photography might be the perfect fit—and Rattlesnake Lake is the perfect place to make it happen…because the best photos aren’t about perfection. They’re about muddy paws, wild joy, and a dog who had the time of their life.
