Action Pet Photography for High Energy Dogs
Let me tell you about my FAVORITE thing…high-energy sport dogs! As mama to a malamute and a catahoula, working breeds have my heart. Smart, high-energy, challenging…I love it all! I especially love doing action photography for high-energy dogs, whether they are racing across the beach, splashing in a local lake or river, or flying across a meadow, I’ll be there to capture every little quirk of their personality and all the joy they bring you.
The best part about photographing active dogs or sport dogs is that they don't have to sit still to create beautiful portraits. In fact, some of my favorite images happen in the middle of the chaos. The ears flopping mid-sprint, the muddy paws, the huge goofy grin after an epic game of fetch—those are the moments that tell your dog's story. My sessions are designed to let your dog be exactly who they are, whether that's chasing a ball at full speed, diving into the water after a stick, or zooming through a field with the biggest smile you've ever seen.
Every high-energy dog deserves photos that showcase their personality, not just perfectly posed portraits (but don’t worry, we’ll get those, too!). If your dog is happiest when they're running, jumping, swimming, or exploring, we'll build a session around the things they love most.
Water Photography for Dogs near Tacoma
We are lucky to have some incredible water locations in the PNW that are perfect for splashy dogs who love to play! Lakes, rivers, beach…I have options for water pet photography around the Tacoma Seattle area.
I recently had the absolute joy of spending the evening with Dash, Kenai, and their mama bouncing through a flower meadow, splashing in the warm lake, and getting soooo muddy. If you’ve spent any time of my socials or website you’ll see that in my mind, muddy paws = perfect session.
This location had it ALL, including a stunning tree-lined trail, a massive field of wildflowers (June/July is peak season!) and a lily-covered pond with a gentle slope, perfect for dogs who love to swim.
Water sessions are especially fun during the warmer months when your dog can cool off while we create unforgettable images. Whether your pup prefers charging headfirst into the waves, carefully wading through shallow water, or launching off the shoreline after their favorite toy, those moments make for some truly spectacular photographs. The reflections, flying water droplets, and golden evening light all come together to create images full of movement and life.
Don't worry if your dog isn't an Olympic swimmer, either! Some of the sweetest moments happen with dogs simply splashing through the shallows, sniffing along the shoreline, or standing ankle-deep with the sunset reflecting around them.
Dash & Kenai’s Action Pet Photography Session
We started the evening wandering through the trails while Dash and Kenai sniffed every interesting scent along the way. Once we reached the meadow, they were free to stretch their legs, race through the flowers, and simply enjoy being dogs. As the sun dipped lower, we made our way to the lake where the real adventure began. There were joyful splashes, muddy zoomies, plenty of shake-offs, and lots of laughter from everyone involved.
Those are the sessions I love most—the ones that feel less like a photoshoot and more like an evening adventure with your best friend. We even had the company of a stunning bald eagle for about half an hour! Talk about PNW magic.
What to Expect During a Sport Dog Photography Session
If you're worried that your energetic dog is "too crazy" for photos, I promise they're probably exactly my kind of client.
My sessions are relaxed and completely tailored to your dog's personality. And, importantly, off-leash is NOT REQUIRED. Leash, collar, and most harness removals are included in the price of your session. I want everyone to be happy, safe, and still have a great time!
We take plenty of breaks, follow their pace, and use games, toys, treats, and lots of encouragement to capture natural expressions and authentic moments. There is no expectation that your dog will hold a perfect sit or stay for an hour. Instead, we'll embrace the zoomies, celebrate the muddy paws, and create images that remind you exactly who your dog is in their chaos so you can look back at these portraits and have the joy of the day and your wild pup come rushing back.
If your dog lives for adventure, loves getting dirty, or can't resist jumping into every body of water they find, I'd love to create a session that celebrates everything that makes them unique. Get in touch using the form below and let's plan an adventure pet photography session they'll love just as much as you do!
