Here's what I want you to know: I have a carefully curated list of favorite spots around the Tacoma and Seattle areas and beyond, and I use that list to match each dog and their person to a location that actually fits them. Around Seattle and Tacoma, that kind of variety is genuinely everywhere if you know where to look.

Short, easy hikes to rivers that sometimes open up to mountain views without requiring a full-day adventure

The Biggest Misconception About PNW Pet Photography Locations

I hear this one constantly: you have to go on some epic hike to get truly stunning portraits in the Pacific Northwest.

And I understand why people think that. The mountains here are jaw-dropping. The views at elevation are the kind that stop you mid-breath. But here's what most people don't realize: you can get portraits with rivers, mountain glimpses, ferns, and towering evergreens without spending four-plus hours hiking up a hill, sweating through your outfit, and arriving at the shoot completely wiped out.

The locations I use regularly give you that lush, wild, Pacific Northwest feeling without turning your photo session into a fitness test. A relaxed dog and a relaxed human make for far better portraits than the most stunning summit view ever could!

That said... if snow-capped mountains are your dream and you genuinely want that epic backdrop, I do offer a special session in the North Cascades once a year for a limited number of clients. This spot is GORGEOUS and doesn’t require a big hike, but the window for when the road is open is tiny (I’m talking mid-July to September!). It's something I look forward to every year.
